Thiruvananthapuram: - Triple lockdown for a week from today after surge in coronavirus cases

The Kerala government has announced a “triple lockdown” from 6 a.m. on 6 July 2020 for a week within Thiruvananthapuram corporation limits after a surge in coronavirus cases in the district.

“Triple lockdown” is a three-phased containment strategy that was followed in the state’s Kasaragod district in April. In its first stage, a strict lockdown will be implemented in the Thiruvananthapuram corporation limit and vehicles or people will not be allowed entry or exit. The second phase will be enforced in a cluster area, where the coronavirus cases have been reported. The third stage will be enforced on the homes of coronavirus patients – a measure said to be crucial to contain community transmission.


PM Narendra Modi addresses Indian soldiers in Ladakh, says their strength sent strong message to the world

PM Narendra Modi on 3 July 2020 addressed the soldiers in Nimmoo, Ladakh, saying that the bravery displayed by them and their compatriots have conveyed a message to the world about India's strength.

"The bravery that you and your compatriots showed, a message has gone to the world about India's strength," said PM Modi while addressing the soldiers here. "Your courage is higher than the heights where you are posted today," he added.

Coronavirus - Louvre reopens in Paris for first time since March

The Louvre museum has reopened in Paris after its closure nearly four months ago due to the coronavirus pandemic. Masks are compulsory, a one-way system is in place and numbers of visitors will be controlled.

There will also be a spaced queue to view Leonardo Da Vinci's famous Mona Lisa painting. Some 10 million people come to what is thought to be the world's most visited museum each year, the majority from abroad.


Coronavirus - Australia to close Victoria-New South Wales border

The border between Australia's two most populous states, Victoria and New South Wales (NSW), is to close after a spike in Covid-19 cases in Melbourne. The outbreak in Victoria's capital has seen hundreds of cases in the past two weeks - more than 95% of new Australian infections.

Until now, the two states had maintained open borders even when others had shut them.

Indian Army to place emergency orders for extreme cold weather tents for soldiers on LAC

With over 30,000 additional troops being deployed in the Ladakh sector to counter the Chinese aggression, the Indian Army is going to place emergency orders for extreme cold weather tents for the soldiers on the borders. The Chinese have already started pitching in their special winter tents and the Indian side, which has similar tents and structures in Siachen glacier, has used some of these in the Eastern Ladakh sector but the need is for a large number of these tents.

The force is looking at both Indian and European markets for such tents as the focus is on to procure them before the extreme cold weather sets in.

Real Madrid moves closer to Spanish title with 7th straight win

Sergio Ramos scored his fifth goal since the season resumed as Real Madrid beat Athletic Bilbao 1-0 on 5 July 2020 to move closer to its first Spanish league title in three years.

Ramos converted a 73rd-minute penalty kick to give Madrid its seventh straight league victory and open a seven-point lead over second-place Barcelona.
